The Park ‘N Place Garage Parking Aid

It was a long time before I became used to actually parking my car in a garage and everyone has their tricks for dealing with getting in far enough. The most common one I’ve seen is hanging a tennis ball from the ceiling, but that trick has its own list of problems. You have to make sure it’s hung at just the right spot, which can be a little more tedious than utilizing a gadget such as this.

Just place it on the ground at the spot you need it, which is a touch more simple than trying to hang something from the ceiling. Then when you’re pulling in, you have a big red indicator to let you know how far you can pull in. To top it off, once your car bumps the sign, it has flashing lights that will go off on contact. It’s also on a flexible stand, so you won’t have to worry about breaking the gadget. There’s no assembly required and the batteries are included. You can purchase it from Vat19 for $16.95.

Nintendo black Wii

Nintendo is releasing a whole new Wii, it’s far far different than the old Wii. This one is shiny, new and all black. None of that bright white will be featured on this Wii, it’s gotten a bit of a makeover. They’re probably trying to make it appeal to the hardcore gamers, because everyone knows jet black consoles are far cooler. There’s probably some scientific reason behind it, I hear even the Xbox plays better when it’s painted black.

Alright, so that’s all bull, but you have to admit, the Wii is looking pretty good covered in all black. Not that the pearly white didn’t look good, but it’s a refreshing change. This black console is being released in Japan actually, as of the first of August. They had mentioned they would eventually be releasing this black console, but now that it’s getting closer they’re showing off the new packaging. There isn’t a release date for the rest of the world though. Actually, they aren’t really saying much of anything about whether or not they’ll ever release it so that the rest of us can buy one too.

Blackberry Storm 9500

The Storm 9500 sees RIM taking it further by adding a full touch screen (the first Blackberry without keys and their attempt at an iPhone killer). It also has more multimedia emphasis than usual for a Blackberry - with a fantastic 480 x 360 pixel display, 3.2 Mega pixel camera, 1GB on board storage and video support for MPEG4 H.263, MPEG4 Part 2 Simple Profile, H.264, WMV.

Microsoft Window 7(a quick look up)

Vista didn’t really do Windows brand any justice and Microsoft have responded with promising a release or a new operating system in 2009 - Microsoft Window 7. There are loads of benefits to this new system and from looking at the Beta it seems to fix a lot of the problems with Vista. Some of the new functions to look out for:
  • Improved task bar with full screen preview.
This has always been a problem with users who open on average of 7 - 15 windows at once. I love the invisible window option.
  • Jump Lists
A nice convenient way to reach recent files or files you want to access often.
  • New User Interface
There is a bunch of new copy and paste features, more open, re-size, close, maximise, arrange windows options - but it still has the familiar windows style (in fact it does look branding wise just like Vista).
  • Internet Explorer 8
    Mozilla 3 is currently my choice of browser having lost my patience with IE7 and memory issues. IE7 is still much quick at opening that Mozilla but the overall experience isn’t as good. IE8 plans to fixs this and pull back some of the market share it is losing. Some new functions to look out for with this release are;
    • Accelerators Highlight text or info from a page and select from a number of online services like address look up and
    • Webslices
Which monitors changes to websites like weather, sport scores etc.
  • Improved Device Management
A single device windows to manage all devices on a computer and Device Stage which allows you to interact better with devices seeing it’s status and run common tasks.
  • Home Group
Home groups is a easy way to setup a home network. Microsoft has managed to make this extremely simple to share files, videos or music but with more security.
  • Faster and increased performance
  • Extended battery life for laptops and portable devices
  • Action Center to sort problems easier
  • Windows Touch
After all Microsoft’s work on their touchscreen devices and tables of recent this should be a great feature albeit I think devices that start using this will take a while to appear. The problems with touch screens like the Eee PC is that your arms starts to ache after extended use - but it is great for quick tasks like selecting a film, sending an email or checking some news.
  • Improved Voice and Handwriting recognition

New Intel Chip - Codename Nehalem(Intel Core i7)

This is the next generation of chip sets from Intel - codenamed Nehalem. It brings a critical change not just to the processor but also in the way it communicates with memory and other processors. Intel have branded this as the QuickPath Interconnect (or QPI). QuickPath involves two main ingredients - one is a built-in component called a memory controller that is separate on today’s Intel chips; integrating this memory controller reduces communication delays in transferring data to and from memory. All in all this should mean a dramatic increase in memory latency and bandwidth improvements with initial reports of as much as 3 times performance increases on today chipsets. They are expecting to sell “Nehalem” processors with 8 cores on a single slice of silicon in 2009.

Nokia 5800

Nokia have been the top seller of mobile phones for a long time now and want to revive the market with their Nokia 5800 / N97 touch screen phone - their effective iPhone killers (Nokia N97 N-series touch phone has already been announced and released this year). From Q3 2007 to Q3 2008 they lost 15.4% of the market share, dropping to 35%, due mainly to the iPhone. With the release of the Apple iPhone it has caused a ripple in the market and mobile phone manufacturers have realised that they need to raise their game. Blackberry have out their Storm 9500 (bottom of top 10) which will be a hot gadget of 2009 (once it gets the firmware it needs to speed up navigation) and will be available before the end of the year. Sony have their X1 touch phone out which, if it was running Google Android, would probably be my number 1 - as it is gorgeous to look at. But since the X1 has Windows Mobile 6 and is therefore rather slow and clunky, it’s not.Now Nokia released it Nokia 5800.

Specification - The 5800 has all that you would expect from Nokia including finally support for flash:
  • Symbian 9.4 Series 60 5th Edition
  • Quad-Band 850/900/1800/1900MHz
  • HSDPA (3.6 Mbits) / GPRS Class 32 / Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11g)
  • Bluetooth (2.0)
  • 3.2 mega-pixel Carl Zeiss Optics camera
  • microSDHC card slot
  • 640 x 320 pixels - 3.2 inch touch screen display
  • 30fps Video Recording
  • Supported formats: MP4, 3GP, H.264, Flash, H.263 WMV & Real Player
  • E-mail (POP3, SMTP, IMAP4, MS Exchange)
  • Battery: Talk Time: 528 mins - Standby Time: 406 hrs

Google Chrome OS

"Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks" and "most of the user experience takes place on the web." That is, it's "Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel" with the web as the platform. It runs on x86 processors (like your standard Core 2 Duo) and ARM processors (like inside every mobile smartphone). Underneath lies security architecture that's completely redesigned to be virus-resistant and easy to update.

A
fter all, Google's Android is a mobile OS that runs on top of a Linux kernel. But Chrome OS is different! Android is designed to work on phones and set-top boxes and other random gadgets. Chrome OS is "designed to power computers ranging from small netbooks to full-size desktop systems" for "people who spend most of their time on the web. The other possibility is more interesting. Look at this closely: "Most of the user experience takes place on the web." The software architecture is simply "Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel." That sounds familiar. A lot like Mike Arrington's CrunchPad, actually, which boots directly into the WebKit browser running on top of Linux. You can already use Gmail offline. I think that will be really indicative of other app experiences in a totally web-oriented Chrome OS with Google Gears. The same goes for Google Docs in offline mode, an option some people have been using for over a year. It's no coincidence that Google pulled "Beta" off of its web apps the day it announced Chrome OS.

Enjoy fast internet access with your Wireless-N Broadband Router With Storage Link

Everyone loves WiFi. You may not have your own laptop, but probably your dad has one, your friend has one, your older brother has one. You borrow any of them and head on to the nearest coffee shop and start surfing the internet. Of course, with the WiFi hotspot that is the coffee shop, it enables you to do this. At home, it is a different story. Before you start using WiFi inside your own home, you work your way over wires as you install and configure your new router. After an hour of blood, sweat, and tears, you have finally installed it.

With the Wireless-N Broadband Router with Storage Link, it is a different story. First of all, it is wireless. You do not have to work a labyrinth of electrical wires to connect your router to the computer, the phone, the modem, etc. Your room wouldn’t be a mess. You wouldn’t have to look for a guntacker to manage the wires under your table.

Other than this, the user can also insert a USB drive or connect an external hard drive to the router to add additional storage space. You will be able to access large music and video files, among others.

The Wireless-N Broadband Router also boasts of ultra fast internet speed. Because of its speed and bandwidth, it is made easier for multiple users to share Internet access and files. They can play online multimedia games and stream online video without the internet slowing down.

You can also rely on the Wireless-N for coverage. Using its advanced Multiple In, Multiple Out technology, it uses signal reflections that can confuse other routers. There will be strong internet speed anywhere in your house, and there are no more dead spots.

You can get your Cisco Wireless-N Broadband Router with Storage Link here.

Hot Technology: 3D Mapping

Google Streetview is like Google Maps, but with photo-realistic, 3D representations of the streets, so you can scroll around and up and down to have a look around, just like you were actually in the road. Currently only a few locations outside the US are covered, but expect the UK to get mapped next year and who knows when the other countries will be called for. But one thing is for sure, it will literally bring the world at your doorstep.

Hot PC: Napkin PC

You have seen desktop, you have seen laptop and palmtop and tablet PC and many more. You have seen napkin too. Now its napkin PC time. This touch interface concept allows multiple users to collaborate on brainstorming projects, make notes or play noughts and crosses or, as it will henceforth be known, Futuristic Noughts and iCrosses. It uses “E-paper” which doesn’t require power to retain an image. Microsoft is behind it and t3.com let us know about it.

Zune MP3 player: the HD version has touchscreen

The new Zune features reflect an effort by Microsoft to compete with the Apple products, especially, of course, with the iPod Touch that has a touch screen. Also, this fact is a clear signal that Microsoft is working hard in order to incorporate its different platforms for computers and mobile phones into the Xbox environment.

Here are some of the new features:

* Zune HD comes with a built-in HD radio receiver with a better quality sound than the traditional radio sets. This way, users are able to listen to music or radio programs everywhere.

* The interface of the sharp OLED touch screen offers users the possibility to browse playlists, movies and other contents in an easy way.

* Its HD-compatible output allows users to play video in 720p (from the player) to an HDTV through an optional HDMI docking station.

* Zune HD includes a full-screen Internet browser optimized for multitouch functionality, which is able to acknowledge multiple tactile commands.

* Zune HD also includes Wi-Fi connection allowing a quick transmission of more than 5 million songs available from the Zune music store to the player.

iPhone 3G cell phone is replaced by 3G S

A better camera, a faster performance and new features: these are the proposals that come with the new iPhone 3G S that had been announced by Apple, the California-based company, during a press conference.

Now, the new smartphone is available for sale at Apple stores around the globe and official distributors. The same as when the previous version was released (the iPhone 3G), this time also there were people who waited in line next to the doors of the stores in order to be the first ones to purchase the new mobile.

In New York, in spite of the rain, about a hundred people stayed under their umbrellas awaiting the initial open hours of the store (starting from 7:00 AM). This time, the launch of the smartphone was carried out at a global level and similar situations happened in London and Madrid, but with less people waiting in lines.

With the iPhone 3G S, there are several features that have been improved, especially an improvement in speed. In fact, this phone is called 3G S, with the S meaning “Speed”. This way, it is possible to have faster and efficient interactions between users and this iPhone compared to the previous models. According to some reports, the iPhone 3G S is 2 times faster than the 3G version.

3D QL Xperience Video Eyewear

Q-London isn’t the first to come up with the idea of video glasses to be sure. But they claim that their new 3D QL Xperience Video Eyewear gives the viewer the equivalent experience of watching an 80″ TV from 2 meters away.

I know what you’re thinkin’. Is it in HD? Well, no. But still, if users are on a plane or alone traveling and wish to have that large cinematic experience from their portable DVD player or iPod, this video headset may be the answer.

In addition to the headset, the QL glasses come with a built in rechargeable battery, and infra-red remote control (which makes sense since the viewer is completely immersed in the experience), adapter cables, mini-jacks and a USB charging cable. Those wishing to use the QL Xperience Video Glasses for their iPod must have an adapter, but they are readily available.

Viewers can use them across platforms as well, meaning PAL/NTSC and SECAM are all readily available. The one downside, however, is that there’s no diopter adjustment for those who wear glasses, so if vision correction is a daily part of your life, you may want to look at other options.

Cost is around $310 US.

HP releases professional workstation with Six-core AMD Opteron processo

HP is no stranger when it comes to releasing new computers, but this time round things are a little bit different. After all, they have just announced the availability of their highly sought after Six-Core AMD Opteron 2400 Series processor-powered line of HP Workstations, targeting businesses and homes that need all the processing power they need and then some. These high-end workstation machines are able to be in their element when handling applications within fields such as engineering, 3-D digital content creation, oil and gas, and science, where the HP xw9400 Workstation won’t stutter or freeze up courtesy of the power of the new AMD Opteron processors that were specially developed to offer higher productivity, especially for multi-threaded applications, multi-tasking and mega-tasking environments.

Interestingly enough, the HP xw9400 Workstation is able to hold up to a pair of Six-Core AMD Opteron processors, giving you a grand total of a dozen cores. Each individual core is already not a pushover, boasting up to 34% more performance per watt over the previous-generation quad-core processors, so imagine what a dozen of these puppies are able to achieve for your work. While these won’t be able to track down any alien lifeforms using the SETI program, it is still able to handle a whole bunch of tests thrown at it, passing with flying colors to boot. The introduction of AMD HyperTransport 3.0 technology (HT3) increases interconnect rates from 2 gigatransfers per second (GT/s) up to a maximum 4.8 GT/s, while you can further augment its performance by throwing in, if budget permits, the ATI FirePro V7750 3-D workstation graphics accelerator.

All that firepower doesn’t mean the HP xw9400 Workstation is one meanie to the environment - no sir, in fact it has even been registered as an Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) Gold product, practically the highest rating available. This ensures that over 90% of the machine is recyclable by weight, where the tool-less chassis makes upgrades a quick and painless affair. Depending on the configuration of choice, prices start from $1,899 upwards.
